Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is the world's largest freshwater lake by volume, located in southern Siberia, Russia. It holds about 23,600 km³ of water, which is 20% of the planet's unfrozen fresh surface water. The lake is famous for being the deepest, with a depth of about 1,642 metres and a surface area of 31,722 km². The water is very clear and clean, with many unique animals living here, such as the Baikal seal. Scientists study its rich biodiversity, and it is estimated to be over 25 million years old, making it one of the oldest lakes on Earth. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
